The Story in Photos

It has been a week since our Rotary Group Study Exchange Trip concluded and we bid farewell to India for now, departing from Mangalore.  It is a challenge to encapsulate our experiences into stories and our stories into a reasonable attention span of family and friends.  I’ve been a bit overwhelmed in organizing the over 2,000 photos I took in Karnataka, but truly enjoyed re-living the experience through the images.  In addition to the images in our potluck collection on flickr, I have posted an album - organized chronologically with a few captions - here:

PART 1 (Group Preparation, TRAVEL: Karkala to Madikeri)

PART 2 (TRAVEL: Mysore to Shimoga)

If you have photos to share, we’d love to add or link them to our collection on flickr.  Please email the files or links to kirsten.sparenborg@yahoo.com.  Thank You!

Thanks to those who have shared photos…

  1. Dear Kirsten. Nice that you are compiling all photos and videos of your GSE visit to Shimoga and other places. One of the photos when you all attended the Indian Republic Day programme at Nehru Stadium , Shimoga came in one of the National News papers. If you dont have that, I can co-ordinate in sending it to you. H. L. Ravi, DGN 2011-12, RID 3180, Shimoga

Thanks so much, Ravi. We would appreciate seeing the Republic Day report. Is it possible to email? Thanks so much!!

  2. Dear Kirsten,

How are you? How is every one at home? Say hi to them. Hope you are back in pink of health.
I recollect how we had a wonderful time in Moodbidri. Our first stop at Virasat Cultural Nite ground, The Guest house, The Wood & Metal workshop, Herbal Garden and Dr. Alva’s Ayurveda Drug Manufacturing Unit at Mijar. Later we visited the 1000-Pillar Jain Temple, Rotary President Mohamedali’s residence and his Furniture factory. I hope you enjoyed those Tender Coconuts & Jasmine garland which you liked wearing it for sometime.
I think it is the first time you are experiencing a tour of a mosque which we did on our way back to Mangalore. That was Thaqwa Mosque at Pumpwell on the outskirt of Mangalore. It was fun to know that, when I had waved my hand for you all to come inside the mosque but Nelson explained that in US it is meant to go away.
I also enjoyed the dinner at Eden Club, a day previous to your departure to Bangalore. I felt bad for Nelson; he had a bad tummy and could not enjoy the dinner. You better eat more and put on weight, ha-ha!!!
Any time you wish to come to Mangalore, you are welcome.
    God bless!

    With love & regards
    AR Kunil

      Mr. Kunil,

It was so nice to recall our visit to Moodbidri in your words – and thank you for filling in some details and names we missed! I am pretty much “back in pink” and have been eating quite a lot, thank you. : )
I think and speak of you all often and send my love to both wonderful Kunil families of Mangalore.
